This year Uranus is moving into Taurus on March 6, 2019. This is a shift all of us will feel, with a very specific meaning and purpose. During 2019, Uranus will go retrograde and will strongly affect some people more than others. How will it affect you?
What is Uranus?
Uranus is easily the weirdest planet in our solar system. Wherever you have it in your chart is how you individualize yourself, and when Uranus is in transit, it brings sudden upsets and unexpected events, which can be either liberating or shocking. Uranus is known as the archetype of the Revolutionary, because it has a talent for breaking out of boxes and overthrowing systems. It’s also the Crazy Genius because, as the higher octave of Mercury, Uranus is associated with brilliance. Uranus’ transits can also be characterized by innovation and technological advancement for that reason.
What is Taurus?
Taurus is the mellowest sign in the zodiac. Its traditional ruler is Venus so it relates to beauty, peace and security. Its modern ruler, Ceres, is concerned with things that connect us to the physical world: our physical bodies, the food we eat and the money we earn. Security is a core theme for Taurus and for many people that brings themes of financial well-being. As a Fixed Earth sign, Taurus is focused on stabilizing and maintaining the status quo, which is necessary for achieving security; however, the flipside of these Fixed traits is plain old stubbornness. Taurus is also a sign associated with the natural world, including plants and farming which provide our food. (Read more about Taurus on Pandora Astrology’s blog)
What does it mean when Uranus is in Taurus?
Uranus is uncomfortable when placed in Taurus, a sign which has a much different feeling from the sign Aquarius, where Uranus is naturally at home. While Aquarius is fast-moving and intellectual, because it is an Air sign, Taurus is slow and sensual, because it is Earth. This makes for a strange fit for Uranus, which seeks to individualize, and revolutionize whereas Taurus, being Earth, wants to preserve the existing conditions.
Taurus relates to agriculture and money, so it’s likely for Uranus to bring revolutions in these areas. In an article in the April 2018 edition of the Mountain Astrologer, well-known astrologer Sue Tompkins, writes that Uranus in Taurus may bring about an agricultural revolution. Uranus has already dipped into Taurus from May 15, 2018-November 6, 2019, and during that time Dewayne Johnson, a groundskeeper, won a lawsuit against the big agricultural company Monsanto, because of evidence that their ubiquitous weed-killer, Roundup, was carcinogenic and gave him cancer. Monsanto has been under fire in recent years for their use of GMOs which are engineered to be grown with the help of this specific weed-killer (and therefore the crops are dependent on it), and this may just be the beginning of some massive changes that will go on in this industry. Also, perhaps lab grown meat, may take on a greater role in our culture.
Taurus rules money as well, so we may be seeing an upheaval in financial systems in the next 7 years. Perhaps cryptocurrencies will continue to rise, and countries will either abandon or reinstate the gold standard. China is beginning to rise as a major economic power. They are currently leading the world on infrastructure development to ensure future trade. It’s hard to predict exactly what will happen when the planet of the unexpected is on the move, but you can bet it will affect the food humanity eats and the money we use.

If this DOES affect you, what should you do about it?
Uranus in Taurus is bound to bring upsets. Issues around security, both financial and relational, may be at the forefront of this 7-year transit. If sudden events occur that shake up your bank account at this time, or even your relationship to food, it’s best to be flexible and open to change. Respond nimbly to fast-moving events and if your finances should suddenly take a leap upward, don’t get too comfortable at your new income level. Realize that this transit may be showing you where you have weaknesses to your sense of security; it’s best to take measures to shore up your security or fortify your investments during this time.
A Uranus transit can also bring restlessness and a desire for change, along with the tendency to break out of boxes you may feel stuck in. You may want to experiment with how you relate to food or money. Perhaps a new diet will appeal or you may find more innovative and individualized ways to make money. You may also be drawn to ways of eating that are abstract in their relation to the earth and your body, such as drinking a meal replacement like Soylent instead of actually eating nutritional food, or lab grown meat versus the flesh of an animal. Whatever changes Uranus brings, and whatever experiments you do, keep an open mind and nimble stance. Be ready for anything, because Uranus is the king of the unexpected.
