Forecast for January 2020

Long-Term Shifts in 2020

2020 begins with a very difficult planetary conjunction that sets the tone of the year: Saturn Conjuncts Pluto in January of 2020. Saturn and Pluto connect about every 35 years and when they do, individuals, societies and nations go through massive transformation. The keyword for this transit is “oppression.” As the year continues, Jupiter, newly in Capricorn, begins moving in and out of a conjunction with Pluto. Jupiter sometimes brings hope and confidence, making things better–but other times it just blows things up bigger and makes them visible when before they were hidden. Hopefully this will bring a spark of positivity and shine some light into dark places. During 2020 Jupiter will also be dancing in a harmonious sextile with Neptune, fostering dreams and ideals and growing them further, adding to a growing feeling of hope and possibility. As the year ends, Jupiter leaves Pluto behind and also exits Capricorn. Upon entering Aquarius in December 2020, Jupiter conjuncts Saturn, a connection that suggests wisdom from experience and an ability to make promises only in line with what you know you can deliver. And that may be the lesson this year.

Planetary Eras: Outer Planets In Signs In 2020

What do outer planets in signs mean? The “outer planets” are the ones furthest-out in our solar system and their journey through signs creates the backdrop for the events of a year. I call these “planetary eras.” Some planets’ eras are very slow, such as Neptune, which takes 14 years to pass along a sign, while others are faster–Jupiter takes just 1 year to do the same thing.

During 2020, Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter will be in Capricorn, while Uranus travels through Taurus, Neptune through Pisces and Chiron through Aries. Each of these planets is developing and evolving its own layer of our human consciousness in its own way: Pluto puts us through metamorphosis, Neptune sensitizes us to the spiritual and otherworldly, Uranus brings us breakthrough and revolution, Chiron heals by triggering old wounds, Saturn demands we discipline ourselves and pursue excellence, while Jupiter brings opportunities, expansion and luck. There are best ways to handle them all and in the video below we Pandora Astrologers explain how.

Hope In The Darkness: Jupiter Joins Saturn And Pluto In Capricorn

Last month we talked about Saturn conjunct Pluto as a dire, difficult and even oppressive transit that is coming our way in January 2020, but which we’ve been feeling increasingly as it ramps up during 2019. Saturn conjunct Pluto may be rough, but Jupiter has showed up to help. Jupiter moves into Capricorn and will form 3 conjunctions to Pluto this year. Then the big planet will finish 2020 by meeting up with Saturn in a conjunction in early Aquarius. Jupiter’s presence brings light into the darkness of these Saturn-Pluto times, reminding us that even when our backs are up against the wall and it feels as if things are beyond our control, we can still make decisions based on a larger moral picture that allows us to grow from the situation. We can become bigger than our circumstances.

In this video Jamie and Julia talk about why the addition of Jupiter brings hope and why Saturn and Pluto’s conjunction might be described as the explosion of “a giant pimple.” With humor and compassion, this video lightens up on a heavy topic. Find out how to respond to this transit and find the good in it.

Mercury Watch

Mercury is moving forward at speed this month—hooray! Expect things to go swiftly at the office and in your personal communications too. January 10th is Greater Epiphany Day, the day when Mercury catches up with the Sun and conjuncts it. Clarity and insight abound—if you’ve got a project that’s been going on for more than a month, aim to catch a wave of peak mental energy that day. Seasons

The sign of Capricorn heralds the beginning of true winter.  In the deepest darkness, light begins to be born.  We gather around the hearth fire and hibernate, conserving our energy.  Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign. The Cardinal driving force of Capricorn takes the form of ambition, fueled by scarcity and the ability to accept limitations and turn them into benefits.  Capricorn is the ultimate lemons-into-lemonade sign. This year Capricorn runs from December 21 to January 20.

This year Aquarius begins on January 20.  As a Fixed Air sign, Aquarius is stubborn-minded, believing that ideals are the most important thing.  Aquarius is humanitarian, the sign under which community gathers in winter, so that people may bind together to make it through the cold, harsh times.  The European pagan festival of Brigid (February 2, adapted by the Catholic Church as Candlemas) involves the lighting of candles to remind us that there is light in the darkness and that the light is now increasing as the days grow longer.

If your birthday is coming, you’ll want your annual birthday reading (called a “Solar Return” reading) to happen in the month before your birthday–because your birthday is your Personal New Year. It’s the best time for setting resolutions, intentions and new life-directions. Get yourself in alignment with what your Greater Self wants for you this year, beginning with knowing what the plan is.

Lunations

Each lunation (new or full moon) has a feeling-state that human beings will be prone to under it, a general mood.

“Doing Your Duty Doesn’t Mean Destroying Yourself”
Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse at 20º Cancer on January 10, 2020

January’s Lunar Eclipse in Cancer brings with it a strong tug-of-war between the forces of duty (represented by a large pile of planets in Capricorn) and the needs of the soul (the Moon in Cancer). This will likely land hard on the workaholics of the world as an occasion on which there is a breakdown in order among the troops and a lack of the will to push through discomfort in pursuit of a goal. In other words, our capacity to work hard and ignore our pain may blow right up in our faces during this emotional eclipse. Watch the video to find out how to restore the balance in your own life.

“Who Are You In The Groups You’re A Part Of?”
New Moon in 4º Aquarius

How much do you define yourself by the groups you are a part of and how can you be the one who decides who you are based on your place in the group? How does your identity as a member of your race, religion, gender, political party, etc, affect how you see yourself? January’s New Moon in Aquarius will bring you face-to-face with these themes and these big questions. This is a great month for discovering our individuality in the context of how we belong (or don’t!) in the groups we choose to surround ourselves with.
